AI at Work Isn't Here for Workers

We hear a lot about AI making our work easier. Tech companies promise it will save time, spark creativity, and help us focus on what really matters. Sounds great, right?

The truth is, most of these promises are not really about helping us. They're about saving money, and often that comes at the expense of the people doing the work.

AI as a Shortcut for Employers

AI is more than just a tool. For many companies, it's a shortcut to cut costs. It can replace tasks humans used to do, reduce staff, and boost profits. That may sound efficient, but it doesn't make work better for the people who depend on their jobs to live.

The stories are all around us. Companies adopt AI, then lay off workers. They call it “innovation” or “efficiency,” but really, it's about cutting expenses. Workers are left to navigate a world where technology is supposed to help them, yet it often helps profits more than people.

Why This Matters

This doesn't mean we should reject technology. It means we should pay attention to how it's being used. If AI mainly makes money for a few while making life harder for the rest, we should challenge it. We should insist that it supports the people doing the work.

AI could be a force for good in the workplace, but only if it's designed with workers in mind. Until then, it's not a partner it's a tool that often works against labor instead of with it.
